What's in store for 2026?
- Starting January 1, 2026, The Advocates' Society is launching a new membership category designed specifically for new calls - New Lawyer Member.
What's Changing?
- One fee from coast to coast to coast: $275.00 per year for all lawyers 0-3 years of call, regardless of where you practice in Canada.
- Extended support: Three full years at a reduced rate and dedicated events and programs to help establish your practice.
- Free Essential Skills Workshops: All New Lawyer members will enjoy access to free skills workshops* for TAS Essential Skills programs for the duration of their New Lawyer membership. (*Plenary session purchase is required to access free skills workshop).
Why we made this change?
- Because the first three years at the bar are fundamentally different. New lawyers are building their practice, honing their courtroom skills, establishing their vital professional network, and learning what it really means to be an advocate.
We've aligned our membership structure with the new lawyer’s career journey. We recognize that 0-3 years is a distinct phase of a legal career that deserves focused support and we are here to support that journey.
For firms – Judges are telling us that new lawyers need skills training. For just $275.00 per year, make TAS part of your onboarding and retention strategies. We can make better advocates together.
- Online Mentoring Program that offers access to micro-mentoring sessions with TAS mentors
- A comprehensive calendar of CPD and social events to keep you learning and connected no matter where you are
- More savings on CPD for Solo, Small Firm (less than 5 lawyers) and Government Members
- Members who pay their own dues can now choose our AUTO PAY system that you can opt into when you check out. If you want to reduce administrative time and set your membership account to AUTO PAY, now is your chance! Please see our FAQ page for more details.

discussions with leading practitioners. Helping you expand your
professional network is what the Society is all about.
Attend TAS social events – offered on a local, national and even
international level – and connect with members of the bench and bar in an informal setting. We offer
everything from casual socials to major galas and destination conferences, all
designed to help you become part of a growing community of like-minded
advocates.
Get Involved and Help Develop the Next Generation of Great Advocates
Nothing is more rewarding than sharing your skills and experience with your peers, and we offer members ample opportunity to do that. Our members participate in committees, help plan events, mentor young advocates, teach workshops, lead seminars and contribute to our publications. Your efforts will grow your profile and support our community.
Be a Strong Voice for Advocates
Get involved in shaping the future of the profession. As the voice of
advocates and the clients we serve, we have a special interest in a wide
range of emerging issues, including access to justice, judicial
appointments, court infrastructure, independence of the bar and the
judiciary, vanishing trials, solicitor-client privilege and civility and
professionalism – and we work hard to make an impact. Become a member
and add your voice to our efforts.
